About Washington County Cooperative Insurance Company

Washington County Cooperative Insurance Company was organized on March 30, 1858 as the Easton Mutual Insurance Company for the purpose of transacting business as an assessment co-operative fire insurance company in the Town of Easton, Washington County, New York.

Under an agreement of merger between the Easton Mutual Insurance Company and the Jackson Town Fire Insurance Company on January 23, 1961, the corporate title of the Company was changed to the Washington County Co-operative Fire Insurance Company. On May 7, 1986 the name was amended to the Washington County Co-operative Insurance Company. Between 1961 and 2008, the Company has merged with the town fire insurance companies of Greenwich, Fort Ann, White Creek, Hebron, Hartford, Hoosick, Cambridge and most recently Salem in 2005.

Today the company’s focus is on writing policies to protect farms, homes, mobilehomes and businesses in 17 counties in the Eastern Upstate New York area.

Washington County Co-op is an assessment cooperative owned and controlled by the policyholders. The Company is governed by a Board of Directors all of whom are policyholders of the Company with James Reeve as current President. Daily operations of the company are conducted by a staff of 5 employees with Scott MacNeil as the Manager & Executive Vice President.
